almost 2!

SKA, Mommy & Grandma Sarah are heading to New York for a couple days to see where Grandma grew up.  When we get back it’ll be time to finish preparing for Sarah Kate’s 2nd Birthday!

Sarah Kate is pretending with her dolls & stuffed animals…asking if they’re ‘OK?’ when they “fall down”, having them hug & kiss each other, etc.

We tried out Gymboree last week & SKA had a blast…wish it wasn’t so expensive.  We also went to a friend’s 2nd birthday party at Urban Monkeys where they had all kinds of big balls, cushions, mats, dress-up stuff and SPACE to RUN.  She had so much fun, we almost could forget that she hadn’t had her daily nap.  These thoroughly demonstrated to Mommy that Sarah Kate is primed for more social interaction.  Too bad the only pre-school that takes ‘younger-than-2½’ is booked with a 70+-kid waiting list!  At least we know that she’ll be more than ready this winter (and maybe she’ll even be fully potty trained by then)!!!

Recent milestones/achievements:  pooped in the potty, (think we might try using ‘pull-ups’ on this upcoming trip…), can *almost* count to 10 (she usually forgets ‘4’), puts her shoes on by herself, starting to recite partial lyrics to a couple songs (Twinkle Twinkle…), can tell us about her favorite books, and enjoys Baby Galileo (astronomy/meteorology) & Baby Neptune (water in its many forms) of the Baby Einstein series.   Whenever we go someplace that has a train table or ‘dollhouse’, she’s hooked.

NEWS: Sarah Kate will be a big sister when she’s 2½.  We’re expecting our 2nd child December 1.  Mommy feels punkier this go ‘round than w/ SKA, but not horrible.

BELATED POSTING…

Sarah Kate continues to surprise us daily.  This morning I handed her a picture and told her to ‘take it to Daddy & tell him what it is’.  She promptly walked into the other room & said, “Daddy, dis giwaff.”  Amazing!!!  J  Jim also caught her practicing different expressions, specifically ‘tantrum’ expressions (oh yay), in the mirror.  She had her first actual public tantrum last week when Mommy wouldn’t let her push a kiddy cart around the store.  She finally has been able to ‘catch air’ after several months of trying to jump, or at least we can now see daylight (about an inch of it) between her feet & the ground when she jumps…and no hands!
