18 months!

December ‘05

Sarah Kate came through her 18 month check-up with flying colors.  She’s starting to stretch out a little bit…she’s just over 2 ½ feet tall now.  Her vocabulary is somewhere upwards of 100 words, mostly verbal, but she’s been practicing some of her hand signs.  She especially likes ‘shoes’, ‘airplane’ and ‘book’.  Mommy needs to learn some more of them to give her new ones to practice.

It’s interesting to see her thinking about the past or the future and the different states of objects.  She went to the fridge a couple days ago & asked for ‘mesin’.  She was insistent, so even tho’ I had no idea what she was talking about, I opened the fridge.  There on the top shelf was the remains of a bottle of her medicine…that she hadn’t had any of in over a week, nor had we talked about it since then.  We have pictures (one of her more recent words) on her wall of a single scene in all four seasons.  It appears that she can identify that the tree with flowers in the spring pic is the same tree that’s bare in the winter pic.

She was looking at her family photo album yesterday and when I asked her to show me different people, even ones who’s names she’s not yet said aloud, she was able to flip through and find them.

We’ve been working on pre-potty training concepts.  She’s practicing sitting on the potty – usually fully clothed – when one of us is in the bathroom and is interested in how the big toilet works.  Mommy is a bit nervous about actually starting the training…we’ll see how it goes!

Happy Holidays, All!
